HIKING la HOUNDS

Dogs have to be 6 months or older before they can join the adventures. Please check with your vet and make sure your dog has all the necessary shots before being with other dogs! We strongly recommend your puppy be spayed or neutered. Most vets will probably recommend that your dog has a Bordetella shot and be on some sort of flea and tick control like Frontline or Comfortis. Please make sure that your dog has a snug fitting collar that will not slip off with current name and phone number tags.

 

Rattle Snakes are found in the Santa Monica Mountains, but we very seldom encounter them. Obviously nothing is guaranteed and an accident can always happen, so we also recommend that you talk to your vet about getting the Rattle Snake Vaccine for your dog. Needless to say, dogs will be dogs and things can happen. Because of this, while your dog is in our care, we cannot be held responsible in any way for vet bills or death resulting from any Rattle Snake bite or injury sustained by other means.

 

So far we've only had one incident in 2 years. Bucket made a full recovery and he's back hiking with the pack :)

 

Scheduling the dogs in the early morning minimises the risk from both heat stroke and snakes.

 

I'm not sure what other dog hikers are doing after 8am in the summer.
